The Local Scoop

The Cartoogechaye Creek is a nice sized creek to fish in. We recommend it to beginners due to it's easy access and good chance to catch fish.
Finding the bridges mentioned in the directions on this page is easy. Once you are on US Hwy-64 West outside of Franklin and have gone 3.6 miles, look to your left while going down a slight dip in the highway for "Mt. Hope Baptist Church" and the turn lane in the middle of the highway closer to 3.9 miles. Take this left over the East bound lane and onto "Patton Road."  The bridge will be directly in front of you taking you over the Cartoogechaye Creek. We suggest taking the immediate right just over the bridge onto "Old Patton Road" and to the old bridge located there. There won't be any traffic and it's really easy access down to the creek. This is also where the hatchery truck stocks from. I know this because I have been fishing here before when they pulled up to stock.
TIP:  If you are in need of bait, lures or a N.C. fising license you can run back over US Hwy-64 but instead of going left or right, go straight across onto "Old Murphy Road" to "Loafer's Glory Gas & Convenience store." This is a small country store/gas station on the left that sells bait, a few fishing tackle items as well as fishing licenses.

The Local Directions

From intersection of U.S. Hwy-64 W and U.S. Hwy-23/441 North in Franklin take Hwy-64 W towards Murphy, NC for 3.8 miles to Patton Road on the Left. Go 500 ft. and over bridge to a right onto "Old Patton Road" and park at bridge there.
