The Local Scoop

We recommend the East LaPorte River Access Area to the entire family. Here you'll find multiple activities to do. This area offers a nice picnic shelter for you to enjoy with your friends and family. This picnic area is conveniently located just off of N.C. Hwy-107 between Sylva/Cullowhee to the North and Cashiers to the South. We suggest stopping in here for a relaxing picnic by the Tuckasegee River where you can try your luck at trout fishing. The river is Hatchery Supported here and you'll have a chance to catch Brook, Brown & Rainbow Trout. Take a look at all of the amenities this area has in the "Highlights" section of this page to get an idea of what to bring along with you before you come. This section of N.C. Hwy-107 is a gorgeous route to take along the river and eventually up onto the Highlands Plateau to Cashiers, NC. So, if you plan on driving through this area we recommend the East LaPorte River Access Area for a nice picnic lunch and a break for you and your family to enjoy. The Local Directions

From Cullowhee, NC and Western Carolina University, get on N.C. Hwy-107 South towards Tuckasegee/Cashiers and travel 3.7 miles to the East LaPorte River Access Area on your right.
